In the middle of a giant horizontal stone arena, engraved with remarkable drawings, a young girl was meditating. Her hair was a shiny blonde, the ends draped over her shoulders. She was dressed in lightweight armor plates that shone white like ivory over her emerald clothing, strapped together with leather bands. Strapped to her belt was a dao scabbard in the same colour as her armor. But her most remarkable feature was definitely a silver collar around her neck, shaped like a V in the front with a peculiar stone set into it; it was round and smooth but transparent like glass. In the middle of the gem, a radiant light shone like a miniature sun captured in stone.
Kazuki heard footsteps and jumped up, turning around. Around her were several older teenagers, most of them around seventeen. It wasn’t a real gang, but close enough.
‘Hey, looky.’ One of them said; A skinny but tall guy with torn baggy jeans and no shirt, just a cross on his chest formed by two leather straps. The straps weren’t decoration; Over his shoulders, Kazuki saw two handles. Most likely two swords, although she couldn’t see which kind. His hair was a sandy brown and messy. ‘We come to the arena for a some battles between friends, and we find a little girl! Have you lost your mommy?’
Kazuki gritted her teeth as the other boys laughed. She decided to try a diplomatic approach instead of letting her anger take control of her. ‘I was meditating, actually, but if you want the place for yourself, it’s all yours. If you’d let me pass now?’ She said as friendly as possible. The guys just kept laughing. So much for diplomacy.
‘You know what, kid, let’s make this interesting. We battle. You win, you leave freely and go mind your own business.’ The sandy-haired guy said. ‘And if you win?’ Kazuki asked. ‘Then you still get to leave, but not before giving us money for cigarettes.’ The guy answered. Kazuki rolled her eyes and removed her dao’s from their scabbard. The scabbard was specially designed to hold the two thin blades. Thin, maybe, but still deadly.
The other guys settled down on the stone seats that formed a semi-circle around the stone plateau, cheering at their mate. ‘Sword to troath, kid. I don’t wanna risk killing you, because the cops hate me already.’ The skinny guy said. ‘Or maybe you’re just chicken.’ Kazuki retorted. ‘Battle commence.’ The guy reacted and drew his swords- Flambards. Quite unusual blades for any warrior. Guessing by the tension she saw on her opponent’s wrists, they were quite heavy. This meant less speed and agility, but more force.
They started circling around each other. The grin had disappeared from the guy’s face, he was looking much more serious now. Kazuki had the advantage of speed and agility with her sharp dao’s, but the flambards had a longer range and more force. Then again, this was sword to throat, so it was all about being fast. The skinny probably saw this too, so he would go defensive until he saw his chance.
Trying to use the element of surprise, she dashed forward with her swords raised…
Kazuki was awakened from her dream by a splash of cold water. She looked up to yell at the guys who thought they were funny- But instead, she saw a giant wave of water coming right at the class. In a flash, she saw a woman floating in the air dressed in fishnets and an octopus. This had to be a nightmare in which she had a dream.
The wave tore everything apart, even the floor- Kazuki fell down, on the hard stone floor. What the hell had this been! Once she regained her feet, she looked around most of the others looked alright, but this was one unusual day. She heard her classmate Sushi asking where they were. ‘I’m more interested in what the hell was up with that Water mage! Who does something like that?’ She almost yelled, getting really pumped now. ‘She was dressed in fishnets and wore an octopuss! Did she escape from a clinic or something! KYA!’ Two beams of pure light shot out from her palms at that last word, scorching some wood. She usually did that when she wanted to vent her anger.
