The C-Gear is the new trainer gear for Generation V. Obtainable from Fennel in Striaton City - it will always be on the look out for a WiFi signal in order to connect you to other gamers through a variety of methods such as local wireless, infrared, and WiFi.

Features

Pass By Mode: If Lookout Mode is turned on then signals from other players will automatically be picked up by the C-Gear. From there you can monitor the other player's progress or request help from the other player in a similar fashion to the Mystery Dungeon series.

The player can also battle people they've encountered while using this feature as well as swap Friend Codes and preform Friend Checks. Items will also be given to both players.

Game Sync: This is the feature that allows you to sync your save file to the Global Link website, from which point you can access additional features such as mini-games as well as the Dream World. Players will be required to select a Pokemon to upload to Global Link, which is how the player will befriend Dream Pokemon. This can only be done once per day.

Entralink: A feature for local wireless only - the player can transport themselves to Entralink - the area in the center of Unova just north of Nimbasa City - using the C-Gear. From there the player can visit other players' games as well as capture befriended Dream World Pokemon.

Xtransceiver: Used in-game and over local wireless as well, the C-Gear also allows for up to four nearby players to connect to each other wirelessly and talk using the DS' built-in microphone. If the player has a DSi, DSi XL, or 3DS, then the camera can also be used for video chat.

Other Features

Aesthetically, the C-Gear will always display whether or not the player has a WiFi/wireless signal and how strong it is. There is also a battery meter, which is useful.

The icons can be changed into a variety of shapes by tapping the C-Gear logo at the top of the screen. The player can also download wallpapers from the Global Link for the C-Gear. These wallpapers are Pokemon-themed and include Pikachu and the final forms of the Kanto starters.

C-Gear can also be turned off any time while playing, and the game will ask you if you want it enabled before you start. The C-Gear also sports a nifty boot-up sequence.
