Driftveil City

Hodomoe City.png
Driftveil City: It Ain't Big Enough for Clay AND Team Plasma.

Across a drawbridge from Nimbasa City is Driftveil City. Driftveil City has a strict sheriff in the form of Clay, the local gym leader, who is such a blatant stereotype that it's amazing the town itself doesn't look like something out of a western. I mean. Seriously.

Features

  • Driftveil City features a small industrial district featuring a low-temperature warehouse called the Cold Storage.
  • The city also features a move tutor who will teach Grass Oath, Fire Oath or Water Oath to your starter.
  • A person who will trade you a Basculin for a Minccino, which would prove very useful versus Clay, seeing as there have been very few Water-types available so far.
  • There is also a large market in the city, from which you can get items such as the Item expert-belt.png Expert Belt and Item shell-bell.png Shell Bell depending on how many Pokemon you've seen.
  • Outside of the market is a man named Charles - he will be the player's first opportunity to participate in Triple Battles.

  • By surfing directly off the beach, you can find the Lighthouse, which has a Item water-stone.png Water Stone on its shore.

Events

  • Before you can face the gym leader, Clay, you must get Team Plasma out of his city - because, as he lowered the drawbridge for you to cross, then it is obviously your fault they are in there. (Congratulations on your Cowboy logic there, pardner.)
  • For reasons that are completely inexplicable, they are all inside a shipping container in the Cold Storage along with one of their sages.
  • Once you defeat them with Cheren's uselessness help, Clay bursts in with an intrepid crew of warehouse workers and carts them off. However, he lets the bad guys go off on their merry way as long as they stay out of his city.
  • You also battle Bianca here.

Gym

The gym here, styled after a mine, is owned by Clay, who specializes in Ground-type PokeMon.

This gym is essentially a redux of Byron's Gym from Diamond/Pearl/Platinum, except it's going down instead of up. Same setup of elevators to ride, girders to walk on and trainers to battle.

The last elevator goes through a hole that would have made Byron tear up in admiration (Look how distinctive the earth strata are, how perfectly preserved the fossils! Whoever dug this hole must have the soul of an artist! Although, on closer examination, it was probably dug by a machine) into a large crystal mine where Clay waits for you.

Clay will bestow the Item quake-badge.pngQuake Badge upon the trainers who succeed in defeating him. Pokemon up to level 60 will now obey you.
