Evolutionary Stones have been around since Generation I, although new types of stone have been introduced over the Generations since. The stones radiate a mysterious energy which causes certain species of Pokemon to evolve.
Unlike many of the other items used to evolve Pokemon, these stones do not have to be held in order to cause evolution. They are used directly on the Pokemon and disappear after use. The Stones can be used at any time, and their effect is impossible to cancel. It is often best to wait before using a stone on a Pokemon, as Stone-evolved Pokemon tend to learn fewer moves than their previous forms.
There are two other types of Stone;
