One of the new features of Black and White adds a huge new aspect to the game. The Global Link allows you to upload your save file to the internet (Yes, the internet!) to access a website. This website hosts many exciting options, even allowing you find Pokemon and send them back to your game.

The Global Link is a feature in game with an accompanying website, much like the GTS of Gen IV. In game it is activated once you show the Dream Mist item to Fennel.

Connecting

GlobalLinkInGame.png

To connect to the Global Link Website, you'll need to Sync up with the website over the Nintendo WiFi Connection. This can be achieved in two ways. You can use the Dream Mist feature, which activates the feature in game. The Dream Mist is found after the player saves Munna from Team Plasma in the Dreamyard. Obtaining a Munna or Musharna will allow you access the Dream World.

You can also then use the C-Gear's to Game Sync feature. When you sync up, you send over one Pokemon from your game into the Dream World once per day.

Features

Dream World

Once in the Dream World, you have the opportunity to play mini games - which often result in wild Pokemon encounters. You can befriend these Pokemon. You can do many other things too, like grow berries - something you can't do in Unova.

Catching Pokemon

While in the Dream World, you may encounter other Pokemon. At some point, you'll have to challenge them. If you catch them, you can transfer them back onto your game. This is a great way to obtain Pokemon you couldn't find anywhere in Unova, and to gain Pokemon with their Dream World Abilities.

Website

The Global Link Website will offer quite a few features, and has already launched in Japan. The features include the ones listed below as well as the option of growing berries and playing minigames.

The site for the rest of the world will launch on March 30th.

Random Matchup

You can also have random battles in the Global Terminal, which is located on the second level of any Pokemon Centre.

You can be ranked for these battles through the Global Link website using a feature called the Global Battle Union. Your progress will also appear on the Global Link website. These battles do not require a Friend Code, and are much like the "Battle with Someone" feature in Pokemon Battle Revolution. Battle modes include:

  • Single Battles
  • Double Battles
  • Triple Battles
  • Rotation Battles
  • And battles where you use the Wonder Launcher.

Downloads

Downloadable content really gives your game a personal feel

No website would be complete without downloads. The Global Link offers a variety of downloadable content, ranging from special PC backgrounds to new songs for the Pokemon Musical.

While many of the downloads are always available, others require you to enter a specific password. These passwords can be obtained from actual events, or on a bit of merchandise. For example, to obtain the Pikachu C-Gear pattern shown here, you need to have taken part in a poll on the website..

Maintenance

The Global Link currently has a Maintenance schedule, which can be seen the image here. You cannot access any aspect of the Global Link during the time relevant to you, most notably the Dream World. This downtime occurs every week unless stated otherwise, or unless the schedule changes.
