Japanese name: Kantō-chihō
The region that started it all…
Kanto made its debut in Generation I within Red and Green. It is east of Johto on the same landmass. As its name would suggest, it is based on the real life Kanto region in Japan both culturally and geographically. All of its cities are named after a color while Pallet Town references an artist’s color pallet. The Sevii Islands, which boast more extreme geography, different Pokémon, and a different culture than what is found on Kanto’s mainland, are accessible from Vermilion City in Generation III. Over the years, Kanto has proven to be a stalwart as it has appeared in every generation save Generation V (so far). However Kanto undergoes significant changes in Generation II and Generation IV which are detailed on a separate page.

Among the five regions, Kanto stands out because it does not have an extensive mythology in any of its incarnations.
