Role Within the Game

Lt. Surge is the third Gym Leader in the game, found in Vermilion City. He trains Electric-type Pokemon, and gives out theThunder badge and TM24 Thunderbolt (Generation I) or TM34 Shock Wave (Generations III and IV) when defeated.

In HeartGold and SoulSilver, he will give the player a French Pikachu (or English for Japanese versions) in exchange for another Pikachu from Viridian Forest.
