Opelucid City

SouryuuCity.png
Opelucid City: Dragons, dragons, dragons and more dragons. Did we mention dragons?

Japanese name: Souryuu City

Across the Tubeline Bridge from Icirrus City is Opelucid City, a city with notable version differences. You may commence Wait-WHAT.

Features

Well, that depends on the version you are in. The change is nearly pure aesthetic: in White Version, Opelucid appears more rural whilst in Black Version it appears more modern and high-tech. In both versions however it appears to be a city with an ancient history and tradition centering around the two dragons, Reshiram and Zekrom. The city's mayor, Drayden, is a cold, Spartan character who knows the Unova creation story better than anyone else. His granddaughter, Iris, apparently 'understands the heart of dragons'. Did I mention this city really likes dragons? Even has Ryu in its Japanese name, for dog's sake.

Either Iris or Drayden (depending on the version you play) can teach any of your Dragon-Types the move Draco Meteor. The EV checker is also in this city.

In Drayden's house there are people upstairs. One of them, an American football player, will give you the Item pumice-stone.png Float Stone, which halves your Pokemon's weight - useful if you have a Pokemon that's particularly weak against Grass Knot or Low Kick. A woman will give your character the Item-bulls-eye.png Ring Target, which allows the Pokemon wielding it to be hit by moves that it would be immune to (like fighting attacks hitting ghost types) - making it the proverbial Horn for 'Aim for the Horn' hax. For masochists only!

West of the entrance to the city you can find the Battle House, where you can battle two Ace Trainers every day in rotation battles (Black only) or triple battles (White only).

Also in this city you can get a Item rechargeable-battery.png Cell Battery (A one-time use item that raises the holder's Attack one stage when hit by an Electric-type attack) if you show a certain NPC a Blitzle from 'Another World' that knows Charge (traded over from the opposite version, that is!) as well as a Item destiny-knot.png Destiny Knot.

After getting the badge Professor Juniper will give you a Item master-ball.png Master Ball.

Events

  • When you arrive you will see Alder once again. He will lead you to a spot where Team Plasma has gathered the town's folk. Ghetsis monologues like the nasty old villain he is and then walks off after telling people they should release their Pokemon.
  • In this city you will learn the truth behind Reshiram and Zekrom and the Unova Region's origin story. Once you defeat the gym leader, Professor Juniper will present you with the Item master-ball.pngMaster Ball.

Gyms

The gym here, which is full of semi-mobile dragon-themed statue-pathways, is run by Drayden (in Black Version) or Iris (in White Version), who specializes in... It should be pretty obvious by now. Dragons.

In this gym you get you run around on the backs of large, serpentine dragon roads (which are kinda like Snake Road from Dragon Ball Z, except they're, well, Dragons). Battling assorted trainers along the way, you will occasionally encounter pressure pads, which you must land on with a jump from the claws of one of the other dragon statues. Each time you hit a pressure pad like that, one of the statues will move its head and one of its limbs, allowing access to new ramps or new pressure pads.

Eventually you will make your way to the gym leader. By that point you would want to strangle them with their own gym.

Iris/Drayden will bestow the Item legend-badge.pngLegend Badge upon the trainers who succeed in defeating them. All Pokemon will now obey the player and they are also given Item tm-dragon.png TM82 Dragon Tail.
