Poké Transfer

Japanese name: PokeShifter

Poké Transfer is Black and White's answer to the Pal Park in Generation IV.

The Basics

Poké Transfer allows you to transfer your Pokémon over from any of the Generation IV games (Diamond, Pearl, Platinum, HeatGold and SoulSilver) and onto your copy of Black and White.

It is located in the Poké Transfer Lab, which can be found on Route 15.

It would seem that to use Poké Transfer, you need two DS's - one with either Black or White and the other with a Generation IV game. This will trigger a new option in your Generation IV menu and allow you to connect to Black and White. You can transfer six Pokémon at a time, but some restrictions apply.

Poké Transfer Restrictions

Similar to the Pal Park, certain restrictions apply when using the Poké Transfer Lab. These restrictions include the following:

  • You cannot transfer Pokémon holding items, therefore you can not transfer items from Gen IV to Gen V.
  • Your Pokémon cannot know Hidden Moves (HMs), but with two exceptions. Pokémon that know Defog can be sent via HeartGold & SoulSilver, and Pokémon knowing Whirlpool can be sent via Diamond, Pearl & Platinum.
  • You cannot send Eggs.
  • The Spiky-eared Pichu cannot be transferred.

Concerning Event Pokémon

Before you begin transferring your Pokémon, be aware that the special event distribution shiny Entei, shiny Raikou, shiny Suicune, and Celebi that unlock Zorua and Zoroark in Black and White will not do so if they're transferred via the Poké Transfer Lab. In order to trigger these events, you must use the Relocator in Castelia City.

The Shooter

PokeShifter.png
While Pal Park was like a mini Safari Zone, Poké Transfer is more like a mini game, with a very simple goal. On the top screen the six Pokémon you are transferring will be jumping around between various bushes. You have a bow-like contraption that is used to fire PokeBalls. With the touch screen and a good deal of accuracy, you can aim for your Pokémon and 'shoot' the PokeBalls at them to capture them. A little orange marker shows you where your PokeBall will land. There is also a time limit to this, so you'll need to be quick!
