Devon Corporation

In the northwest of Rustboro is the headquarters of the Devon Corporation. From humble beginnings, the Devon Corporation, or Devon as the locals call it for short, has grown into a huge and successful business. It is Hoenn's equivalent of Kanto's Silph Co. Devon makes many useful and interesting products for Pokemon Trainers, and are even responsible for the creation of new types of Poke Ball. They have even developed a process to revive Pokemon from fossils.

Cutter's House

The house to the left of the Pokemon Center belongs to a man who lives with his daughter. He will give you the first Hidden Machine of the game, HM01 Cut. It is said that when Rustboro was undergoing expansion, it was this mans Pokemon using cut that cleared all the trees to allow the cities growth.

Elyssa's House and Kobe's House

Next to the Rustboro Gym is a house. In Ruby and Sapphire the house belongs to a girl named Elyssa, while in Emerald the house is owned by a boy named Kobe. Both will offer you an in-game trade.

The school is located east of the Pokemon Center. The teacher will give you a Quick Claw after you've spoken to her. The students also have helpful tips for you to listen to.

Events

The Devon employee is in trouble again

The events of Rustboro don't really start happening until you've beaten Roxanne. As you leaver her gym, a man will run past closely followed by the Devon Corporation employee you helped earlier in Petalburg Woods. It seems Team Magma or Team Aqua depending on your game, has stolen something important. Follow the employee to the start of Route 116 and he'll ask you to get the goods back for him. If you don't he's in big trouble!

Once you've followed the Team Magma/Team Aqua Grunt along Route 116 and into the Rusturf Tunnel and defeated him, you can return the Devon Goods to the employee. He's so happy to have them back that he takes you back to the company headquarters and introduces you to the president of the company, Mr. Stone.

Inside the Devon Corporation

Upon hearing that you're a strong trainer, Mr. Stone asks if you can deliver a couple of packages for him. The Devon Goods you returned to the employee are for Capt. Stern in Slateport City and are very important. The second package is a letter for Steven, who is currently in Dewfort Town.

In return for agreeing to deliver the packages, Mr. Stone gives you one of the company's new products: The Pokenav.

Once you have delivered the letter to Steven, return to the Devon Corporation and the president will thank you by giving you an Exp. Share.

Gym

The Rock-type Gym

The Gym here is owned by Roxanne, who specializes in Rock-type Pokémon.

Her gym is a simple field of rock, without any puzzles to solve. There are a couple of trainers to defeat if you are playing Ruby and Sapphire, and three if you are playing on the Emerald version. You can avoid them, but it's always wise to take on every challenge, as they let you know what's coming. If you chose Treecko or Mudkip as your Starter Pokemon, you should have no trouble here.
