High defense, low attack, but has some moves to go with it. Gyro Ball lets you attack based on the foes speed, negating your stats, which is good for this guy. I’d like to see how they use this one in the anime, as it is very different. |
Again, it won’t be sweeping anything but makes a nice staller. You can prevent the foe escaping, and toxic them. It looks a little odd, and seems to me that these guys are the Baltoy and Claydol of this generation. (Design wise) |
Ahem. NemGen! Yes, they stole my Kodowoodo. :( Never mind though. One of my favourite ‘baby’ Pokemon, probably since we knew about it AGES before DP was released. Sudowoodo needed another form, and this one fits. |
I’m still unsure about the name, but can’t come up with anything better, so whatever. It looks rather cute, and fits Mr. Mime well. Heal Wish as an Egg Move is nice, for when you want to switch out to a damaged Pokemon in battle. |
It has a rock. In its pants. Only use really is to boost Chansey’s HP a bit, but with 255 HP stat as Blissey, does it really need it? I do like the fact Chansey is now a three form line, but with only 107 new Pokemon, all these new forms seem like a waste of a Pokemon slot. |
And Perap suffers from that waste. It not evolving was a huge surprise to me. Chattering is a great idea for a move, but I imagine you will soon see kids saying all kind of things in to the mic for Perap to shout at the opponent. Design wise I like it, I would have preferred a scythe carrying bird though. (That’s what the shadow looked like) |
This thing is just…odd looking. Very bright colours. Ghost and Dark, but with decent stats this time. I think it is hard to get though. You need to have met up with 30 or so people in the Underground, then get a stone from someone, and throw it in a well. Might be worth it though. |
land shark! But it stole the Trapinch line’s types. I do like this line, but a new type combo would have made a change. Never mind, this one still looks cool. A bit like a mutated Lavitar. |
A blue…Grovyle? That’s what it reminds me of anyway.
If I get the chance I would probably use it, Dragon Dive seems
like a good attack, and 90 attack is pretty good. |
Now this one is pretty awesome. I tried to make some kind
of Land Shark a while ago, but it didn’t really work.
This one does. 130 attack, perfect for Crunch and Dragon Dive.
The design does seem familiar, like a hybrid of lots of old
Pokemon, but it is still great. |
Again, not really new to us, but I still like it. High HP, as expected, and rather high attack for a “baby”. It evolves via happiness, but it would have been nice to see evolution die to it having eaten a set amount of Pokebread or something. |
Cute, but having a basic form of Lucario was odd, probably because we had more or less all assumed it was legendary. The sprite pose is a bit odd, looks as if it is falling over. Basically it is a downgraded Lucario. (I expect it was designed after Lucario too.) |
NOT a legendary! I still like Lucario, and it has some nice moves, specific to it. Interesting abilities too. One prevents flinching, the other increases its speed when flinched. I like the Fighting/Steel combo, and having some ground type moves thrown in is a nice bonus. |
Heh, I like it. One of the few Pokemon to have a huge difference between the male and female forms. (Colour in this case) Basic move pool, but gets earthquake via level up, which is awesome. |
Again, nice design. It must keep sand in its back or something. Nice HP and physical stats, for those ground type moves. And it is pure ground, so no 4X grass/water weakness. |
They stole a Nem Gen name this time…Anyway, it looks pretty good, not quite sure if those green bits are its eyes, or eyebrows though. Has a very high evolution level for a bug, but atleast it gets some decent attacks along the way. |
The accordion scorpion. I liked it back when it was first revealed, and I still do. It seems to learn all of the elemental fangs on evolution, which gives you the chance to choose whichever one you need to fill gaps in your team. Point Strike seems like an interesting attack, as it randomly raises a stat by two stages. |
The poison/fighting toad is just asking to be taken out by an Alakazam. I don’t like this form very much, it’s just a bit meh. Both attack stats are quite good for a basic too. |
Now, this one I like. I’m not sure the Danger Anticipate ability actually does. (How does predicting super effective attacks work in battle?) Fair attack stat, and lots of physical moves to use it. I want to use one of these eventually, I just really like the bulbous bit on its neck. |
Hm. This is another 4th Genner that shouldn’t have been
a standalone. Even if it was an alternate Weepinbel evolution,
I would have preferred that. It looks slightly crazy, and for
some reason has levitate. |
Average random water type really. It gets Aqua Ring to restore
HP which could be handy, and randomly learns Silver Wind. It
isn’t too bad, but probably won’t see much use. |
See above really. They must have just pulled a random fish out from the Big Book of Unused Pokemon™, to fill up a few spaces. We had Goldeen and Seaking 10 years ago, we didn’t need them again. |
Baby Mantine. Apart from the stupidly high (120) Special Defense, not really much use. Uses the nice evolution method of only evolving if Remoraid is in your party. However, the DP Mantine sprite has no Remoraids on it….(Where as previous versions did) |
Nice new type combo, and an auto-snowstorm ability. The design isn’t too interesting though, but the combination of ice and grass attacks makes a nice change. (Particularly the 120 base attack Wood Hammer) |
Once again, meh design, but I like the move pool. I expect
it may see use just because it is a bit different type and move
wise. |
I don’t like the english name, but the Pokemon is good. High attack stat, and good STAB moves like Snow Slide (TM move) and Blade Test. I always liked Sneasel, so it’s good to see it become a bit more useful. (The shiny pink version is awesome too.) |
The next few Pokemon are not in the Shino dex, only the National. I quite like Jibacoil, although its colour seems a bit off compared to Magneton. The Magnemites have merged properly now, rather than just being stuck together. It still lacks Levitate, but has an attack that changes the ability to that. Stat wise, good Special Attack, but Attack isn’t so hot for steel moves. |
