Sprigatito was announced alongside the other two starter Pokémon, Fuecoco and Quaxly, during the Pokémon Day Pokémon Presents on the 27th February 2022.

All three starter Pokémon were the first revealed for Pokémon Scarlet and Violet. They also all have the same name in both the English and Spanish localisations, highlighting the link to Scarlet & Violet’s Spain-inspired region.
