Pokécharms at 20: Fan Art
When Pokécharms returned to the Internet in 2003, beginning the era we’re now celebrating today, the number one reason behind it was to have somewhere online for myself and my friends to put their creative works. Back in 2003, long before social media and in the days when bandwidth was an expensive and precious resource, having a space like Pokecharms was invaluable for sharing your artwork, your writing, etc.
Years later, this core concept would be fully realised with the first version of the Creative Corner – which is why we’re extremely excited to be working on bringing it back later this year – but for the whole duration of the last 20 years, creativity has unquestionably been at the heart of this community. To celebrate both today and the eventual return of the Creative Corner, we’ve compiled a few pieces shared by members of the community ahead of today that are worth highlighting:
The Shiny Volt Tackling Fearow – StellarWind Elsydeon
Every once in a while, a thing materializes that is such a work of complete and utter derp that it transcends the eternal and achieves god tier status. The Shiny Volt-Tackling Fearow’s legend began in
StellarWind Elsydeonthe 14th century2008, when a random 14-year-old n00b named Tsuki produced a generic Mary Sue character whose Shiny Fearow (Thunderbird by name) could for some completely inexplicable reason utilize Volt Tackle. The n00b in question was shot down rather quickly – but the sheer WTF of the creature remained and it became part of the ‘Charms pantheon forever (hence the loading animation on this current incarnation, as well!)
